In this post I have added side-by-side comparison swatches of Tawny 3W1 and Wheat 3N2, so you can clearly see the difference in the undertones and the shades. You already know, that I love this foundation and have always raved about this formula, so without further ado, I will quickly move to the review...

SWATCHES - WHEAT 3N2 Versus TAWNY 3W1
It's really hard to see a difference in the two shades unless they are blended and applied over skin. I feel that Tawny looks much lighter on my face comparatively and I would only wear it during winters or when my skin looks slightly lighter than it currently is.
After blending the swatch out on skin, the golden/yellow undertones of Tawny 3W1 are more noticeable and even though its a good enough match for my skin, I like Wheat 3N2 on me better. There are more swatches of Tawny 3W1 on the review blog (click here) where I have included other foundations as well.
I hope this post helps you understand the difference in undertones for these two shades, which almost look the same but appear quite differently on skin, simply because Wheat 3N2 has a neutral undertone and Tawny 3W1 has a golden undertone.
The Double Wear Foundation by Estee Lauder is a favorite among bloggers and makeup artists and you will only know why when you get one. It's a flawless, natural looking, matte finish foundation which stays on all day, without transferring to clothing. It never breaks me out or cause any allergic reactions. Its just a very well made product and I am so thankful that Estee Lauder did not make any changes to this formula, because its perfect!
The packaging is also super luxe. I love the frosted glass with a gold lid. It did not come with a pump but as I use this everyday, I find it easy to use, even if I have to shake and pour some foundation our on the top of my hand.
Its also a reasonably priced foundation compared to other luxury brands and it performs much better than many of the high end foundations I have used previously. I usually always prep my skin before applying a foundation - so I always apply sunscreen or a facial oil before applying this to my face. Sometimes, I just apply the foundation when I am in a rush and it blends smoothly on skin. This foundation sets beautifully and does not require any powder to set it!!
So overall, Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation is a great product to use for all skin types and in all weather conditions!! They have so many shades available that you can find one for yourself and for the changes in skintone throughout the year.

DeleteThank You. Purchasing my first shade and uploaded an image, I was advised to use Tawny but wasn't sure, your swatches really helped me be sure. Great detail and appreciate your post.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! <3
DeleteWhat is your mac shade?? 🙂
ReplyDeleteI mix NW30 and NC30. Hope that helps!
DeleteI always used to use the original tawny but they changed the formula and I am now a different shade. I also stopped using it as the new formula makes me break our.
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh! that's not good. I didn't notice much of a difference in formula on my skin... Love double wear foundation
DeleteI use the colour in rattan and also cashew when I have a really dark tan. Tawny does not suit me at all anymore as since they reformulated it the colour haa strong pink tones under my skin. I have stopped using the reformulated foundation as it breaks me out now. Still trying to find a decent foundation that is as good as this.
ReplyDeleteIts hard to find a formula as good as the Double Wear Foundation. I am currently using the Dior Forever foundation. Will do swatches and review soon on the blog :)
DeleteThank you so much. I was looking for a shade lighter than 3N2 which I use for summer but clearly its too dark in winters on me. Will get tawny. However I feel that I need a lighter but neutral shade but anything with gold gues.. any suggestions? TIA!
ReplyDeleteI am currently trying out the Dior Forever Foundations and I am closer to shade 2W which is still a bit golden for my liking but still looks fine. I will review it soon on the blog with comparison swatches :)
